Time for a Makeover?

I mentioned in my 2017 goals one of the things on my mind lately has been to find ways of improving this here blog site. Another thing I’ve thought about doing is redoing the site a bit.

When I started this, it was concentrating exclusively on my House Valerius series. But, to some degree, things have been branching out over the past few months. The site now includes other short fiction and such, book reviews, and talking about events (well, I’ve got a post coming soon about that). There’s also the possibility of doing interviews providing:

  1. I get the courage to say I’m doing them.
  2. I ask people. &
  3. They agree.

So, should I update things (the theming, etc) to be more general to me and less series specific?

Now, it’s been nothing more than a vague notion so far. I haven’t looked into what would be involved if I did decide to go that route. But it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve started over on the blog (I think the fourth at last count). Still, this is the longest run I’ve had on it and as far as I can recall, is also the first time I’ve had people reading and commenting on posts.

So, I’m not sure if it’s necessary, I’m not sure it’s worth the hassle but it seems like my brain won’t let go of the idea.

If it’s not leaving your brain, then I say go for it! A fresh design is always encouraging both to the author and the reader (looks new and shiny!). As a former graphic artist, I’m always up for a new look. I’ve given my blog plenty of makeovers, and I do have to say that unless I mentioned it to my readers, most people didn’t notice.

I keep up on my followed blogs via the WordPress Reader, so I don’t even see the blog layouts/designs most of the time anyway. I imagine many others do likewise as well.

Blogs tend to evolve and mutate over the years of their existence, so consider the superficial change as a minor facelift and keep on blogging your way. I beat myself up sometimes for not sticking to the original “plan” of my blog, and struggling to accept the evolution of it has ultimately made me blog on this site less — which is unfortunate. Technology forces us to be more open-minded and go with the flow. And that’s a good thing!

Good luck, and if you do decide to change your template, I’ll be looking forward to seeing what design you choose!
