January Goals

I did say I’d be doing some January specific goals, didn’t I?

One thing that I don’t want to do; month in, month out, is just do a boiled down version of the annual goals. For one thing, that would be far too easy. For another, that would be pretty boring for those of you reading this. While I expect there’s always going to be some overlap (after all, I can’t hit the big goals without the smaller ones) I’m going to do my best to keep things as fresh as possible. How that’s going to pan out, well, I dare say we’ll find out eventually.

• Write 2 book reviews.

Having said all that, my first goal for January comes straight from the 2017 goal list. Well, I’ve rarely claimed to be consistent. But I do want to be consistent about the reviews.

• Write fiction every day.

I was wondering earlier how long I can continue using the same goal each month. The simplest answer was until I’m consistently (is this a theme starting?) accomplishing it. I didn’t get this one last month so there’s all the more reason to put it down for this month.

• Write up my notes for the beta-read.

Last month I agreed to do a beta-read on a new novel. Technically, I was asked to do it in November but I was graciously allowed to finish my attempt at NaNoWriMo first. I’ve already read the book and made some notes as I was doing so. I just need to put them together in a deliverable fashion. I really want to get this one done, not just for the author who trusted me to do but also for me, since I’ve thought about volunteering before and I want to know if I should do so again.

There are others I could include; read some, make a start on House in Exile; but they’re already more or less covered by the ones above. So, for this month, I’ll leave things there.
